Hanna (played by Saoirse Ronan) is a teenager who lived with here father, Erik (played by Eric Bana) in a remote place somewhere in Finland. She was raised here since she was a child and has grown up trained to be an assassin. Adept with the use of weapons and hand to hand combat, his father finally says that she was ready. Ready to face their enemies, led by Marissa Wiegler (played by Cate Blanchett), a high level CIA operative.
As part of her coming of age of sorts, his father gave her the decision if she wishes to go on the mission she trained her whole life for. Erik then leaves her and she was captured by the CIA. This was just an excuse for Hanna to be with her intended target, Marissa. The latter was able to evade Hanna's attach by employing a body double. Thinking she killed Marissa, she escaped the CIA holding facility (in Morocco) and proceeds to meet up with her father in Berlin.
She then stow aways from Morocco to Berlin and learns that Erik wasn't her real father. Erik was a former CIA operative who recruits pregnant women, whose babies were being re engineered as up and coming super soldiers. This was why Hanna was strong and easy to learn killing skills, her mother was among those who joined the program. So when the project was shut down, all the subjects were eliminated except for Hanna whom Erik raised to seek revenge on Marissa.
Eventually in efforts to save Hanna, Erik was able to distract Marissa, allowing the teenager to escape. Hanna went back to a safe house, a friend of Erik's and Marissa was able to catch up with her cornered almost, she was able to kill Marissa and was able to escape.
One thing we can say about the lead Hanna, she is BAD ASS and COOL. When we saw the trailer for this movie, we already knew the story line. It's pretty much it and with the surprise gone, we expect it to be a so and so movie. We eventually did watch the film as it was being hyped a lot by Netflix. We were wrong with that so and so description about this one. Saoirse Ronan was exceptional as that teenager assassin, the stunts, the actions were wonderfully done and we love every bit of it. Although the movie lags during action down time but we get high again when the killing starts.
A truly watchable film if you ask us, with Erik Bana and Cate Blanchette supporting here, we get two great actors and both did their parts splendidly. I can't ask for anything more from them in this movie. Cate was her usual self here, wonderful character portrayal of that emotionless Marissa ,who kills as necessary as possible, kill now ask questions later.
We would like to try and explain more why we liked the movie but simply there aren't anything else. It wasn't the story line as it wasn't new for us, so we liked it just because of 1) Saorsie Rona 2) Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett and 3) the action scenes, and oh 4) we love snow. The last one, we don't get that here in my country.
