Our review
We first saw the trailer for the movie and immediately we loved the way it was presented. With big name stars here, we assumed beforehand this will be a great drama movie. We love Bryan Cranston except maybe for a few films he made, but we liked his performance here in The Upside. He was melodramatic as his character was, and a fresh look was given to us by Kevin Hart. His acting, rather talking was toned down here, and get this, every word that comes from his mouth here made sense. This twist on Kevin was a great come on as we knew he was a great actor, just being overshadowed by his mouth in most films. Here he comes as a great auxiliary to Bryan Cranston.
Unlike Bryan's usual auxiliaries, Kevin comes in as a no holds barred person who speaks his mind. Started out as a negative person, it took a while for Bryan to fully accept Kevin as who he is and transformed him to what he was in the end. If you think Kevin was the only one transformed, Bryan likewise was molded to a realistic looking person in the process. They were the direct opposites when the movie started, they changed their personalities enough to make them the best of friends.
The movie was strong emotionally and we loved the journey of the two, the ups and downs provided milestones in the story. A film above a true story, we later learned that this was a second movie adaption. Although it veered away from the truth, the story telling is so nice that you will endear to both of our characters. Great movie to watch and its being shown in Amazon Prime.
