Synopsis
A different british government stands in this mirror world showing a tyrannical head overshadowing the people it governs. To create peace, they clamp down on its citizen's freedom. Most of the people like the "so called freedom" they have, no violence in the streets, no destruction, everyone was happy. Then came Evey (played by Natalie Portman) who showed us the flawed situations in this peaceful society. The abuses that went unreported, the injustice being perpetrated by those in power are slowly being shown through her, thanks to V (portrayed by Hugo Weaving). V then orchestrates his actions to make the public aware of its shenanigans using V in the process, finally bringing justice to V, bringing down the government and freeing the people in the end.
Our review
Who knew that V was performed by a great actor named Hugo Weaving? He was in mask in all of its scenes so we wondered who he was. Even with the mask on, Weaving brought life to the iconic character, bringing the emotional complexities to life on screen. V was a tortured soul as we later found out and he wanted justice to rain on those who wronged him. His actions eventually led to various expose's that lead to his coveted justice and bringing down an oppressive government.
Natalie Portman's character Evey was a naive and innocent girl to start with, but with the situations created for him by V, made him a strong and opinionated woman. Her view of society and life in general was contrasted by V's views that made her realize how the government was running things to have the desired peace it was giving its citizenry.
Even with the great performances of stellar actors does not bring the movie to our expectations. The story telling was a bit slow and that we could not possibly believe that V is invincible "almost". He planned everything yet he was perplexed by the introduction of Evey. Her presence brought insecurities to V's plans however we did not see it as such in the film. We hoped that V could have been more realistic and that he should have mistakes maybe, but after retrospect, the society which he was in was unrealistic in a grand scale of things. Yes in the real world there are some injustices going on, but not the same with that in the film. So we let V's situations pass as entertainment with a purpose.
If you are into conspiracies and scandals, then this movie is it for you. Better oil your mind as V is a very brainy character and you might want to catch up with this lines. They are very witty and eye openers especially in the political sense.
A great line here still hounds us - the people must not be afraid of its government, the government must be afraid of its people.
