Our review
In essence the movie is about a confident and arrogant flyboy in the name of Maverick (played by Tom Cruise) who's always been the best. When he joins the class in the Fighter Weapons School, he found out that his skills weren't enough against veteran pilots. His competitive nature kicks in and tries to be the best of the best even when his actions were a bit risky and dangerous.
His total disregard of the risks on himself and his Radar Intercept Officer resulted to an accident resulting to the death of Goose. He realized that his pride and arrogance brought upon his friend that his guilt feelings affected his subsequent flying missions. He became overly cautious of his flying decisions and being safe did not give him the top honors in his class. His teachers and his love tried to convince him of his gift but to no avail.
His struggles with guilt after his arrogance is the main story of this film and of how he overcame it. His "cure" eventually lead to victory in the end and hugging his new life to the fullest.
