Love in modern times is hard as narrated by Hitch. People are guarded so much that it isn't easy for a guy to simply approach a woman and say "I like you". This situation has lead most of the men to be timid and shy. This is where Will Smith's character Hitch comes in.
He is a consultant or a love doctor they call him. He creates situations wherein the guy has a fighting chance to talk to the love of his life at least. He will then coach the guy until he reaches his ultimate goal of marrying the woman of his dreams. A very tall tale if you ask us, and thanks to Hitch, he has help.
The movie starts off with Hitch helping Albert Brenneman, a chubby mid level finance executive who's very much in love with his boss, Allegra Cole, a wealthy super model look-a-like. If you look at Albert and Allegra they are an odd couple you might say. It will take Hitch a whale of job to even make Allegra take notice of Albert. With Hitch's guidance, Albert swept Allegra off her feet or did he?
Along this journey of Albert, Hitch meets his match with Sara Milas, A very talented lifestyle writer for a magazine and is writing about a certain date doctor not knowing it was Hitch all along. Of course as in all hollywood movie, Sara finds out who Hitch is and the latter's world turned upside down bringing down Albert's with him.
In the midst of all the sadness and loneliness, Hitch came to find deep in his character that he is afraid of loving. Afraid that he might be hurt in the process thus guards himself from being hurt. As Albert made his realize, Hitch was selling a product which he doesn't believe in. Only until then Hitch knew that he has to fix the relationship between Albert and Allegra and fix his with Sara as well. Cheesy in the process yet romantic and cute, the movie has the right twists and turns to make a stone heart love again.
For men, this movie is a great help for them, for women, this movie might get them afraid of the fact that some date doctor is really out there and outplaying them. Other than this, the movie is enjoyable to watch for both. Not in the calibre of action films by Will Smith, this movie still has its fair share of ooomph to be able to level with them.
As Hitch would say, Never lie, steal, cheat or drink. But if you must lie, then lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away.
