Adam Sandler is a regular staple for us especially during this time frame. He was making hits after hits until the jokes were all the same except for this one.
He plays an emotionally challenged individual here Bobby Boucher Jr., so he was home schooled andn raised by his old fashioned mom to shield him from society. Even in his state, he likes to help out a football team by being the waterboy. He knows he doesn't much skills so he made himself great in being the waterboy. He knows what's the best temperature, turgidity, ph balance of the water to be give the best thirst quencher a football athlete needs. This skill however did not sit well with the first team he worked for. He was considered an outcast and was picked upon by his coach and the athletes until they fired or booted him out of that team. With his desire to be the best waterboy, he applied for a down and out football team to be their waterboy. He was accepted there and when he was again being picked upon by one of the athletes. In one of those instances he got angry and leashed out on the athlete. He tackled him so hard and fast that the coach took notice of it. He thought he would be thrown out again but instead he was hired by the coach to be an athlete. He was given a scholarship just to play for the football team and he didn't tell his mother about it. He knew that if his mama would find about him studying in college and playing football, then that would be it. So he continued to secretly play for this team and he was good at tackling his opponents. he was able to carry his team to the finals against the first team who booted him out. It turned out that his coach had beef with the opposing coach and it was Bobby who helped him overcome his fears and eventually win over the other team.
For a film with a simple story plot this was watchable. Most scenes might be slapstick for you but it was necessary for this film. We like movies about underdogs and this is one of them. We can see how the main character underwent a number of struggles and it also showed that he tried to overcome them. Along the way he gained the respect of his mom, his team mates, his school mates and eventually got a girl at the end.
