During my early sign up with Netflix I was surprised to see the release of this film coming from Michael Bay. Imagine a big budget film that went straight to a streaming service. Not the big theaters but to Netflix.
With Michael Bay on top of this movie expect the usual mayhem and the stunts involved in this thing. That alone would spell a blockbuster for you. Add in a big name star like Ryan Reynolds, then it would likely be a surefire winner right? Sadly for us it wasn't.
We were amazed by the actions scenes which we believe is Michael Bay's forte. He was really given a free hand with this and we can compared it with chinese movie action scenes. Grand and lavish and the more elaborate the better. if you like gory mind splitting kills then this is right up your alley.
Actions here were intense, but content wise? Plot was so thin we were able to expect the twist and turns of this movie. First half of the movie was filled with action that a bit of a story was in it. The other half is where the story started I guess.
It's a story about a rich guy who wanted to change the world and ended up dead so that he can be the new Batman. Since he is rich, he was also able to hire five more "dead" people to do his bidding. His goal in the film is to overthrow a ruthless dictator and install a better one. Then slap some emotional flash backs and action scenes along the way, you get 6 underground.
This a film worthy of watching if you have nothing to do and don't want to use your brain for say 2 hours or more. Just be awed by the action scenes and the mishaps this motley crew has to offer. Ryan Reynolds have his quick wit and banter in this movie and just a bit more of this, I will begin to see Pokemon and Deadpool if this continues.
As a final note from us, this is a great pilot episode for a Netflix series if done this way. You have the character set up and flash backs. Why their characters are who they are and their differences in the beginning was essential along the way so that in the end they were able to get together for a common goal. It's like the A-Team and the Avengers doing it ala fast and furious. I do hope they turn this into a series with the same cast and crew. With an expensive budget, I know this wouldn't happen.
