Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (2010)

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is a graphic novel turned into a movie so it has already gained a cult following prior.  We haven't read the former, but the latter we watched and sign me up with that cult.

Michael Cena is Scott Pilgrim.  A typical male with no job and going through life steadily along.  He is joined by her "young girlfriend" Knives Chau.  A middle school girl who he plays in the arcades with until she meets Ramona Flowers, the eccentric different color haired person from America.

The story line is like his graphic novel, thin.  One line sums the story line for this movie, its just Scott against the world.  In his case, the "world" is the seven evil ex'es of Ramona Flowers.  She's bad news actually, who would have evil boyfriends one right after the other?  Seven at that, until she meets the "good guy" in Scott Pilgrim.  All the evilness in the world x seven rains down on poor Scott.

He is so innocent to the past of Ramona that he to deal with her evil ex'es.  For a story line so thin, lack of twists and turns and excitement it's not.  We were entertained as to how the film unfurled and how it was faithful to the graphic novel.  By incorporating balloon captions and some animation into the film, it provided comedic relief and some pizazz.

Battling the evil ex'es proved to be daunting for our hero, Scott. An evil pirate err looks like a pirate with his vampire chicks, to a skate boarding celebrity, a dashing bass player who looks like superman, a romance with DJ twins, a rocker hipster lesbian and a music mogul, these are the people our Scott is up against.

The movie is filled with different battles and it's funny how it ends every time he wins.  Of course heroes always win and people will walk out the door if suddenly the hero dies.  Michael Cena plays the hero role well and it made the movie a likeable one.

With all the shenanigans in the movie, we strongly suggest you watch this movie.  It offers something refreshing for a movie with innovative ideas and take into directing.  Edgar Wright the director has creatively made some wonderful movies and this one can line up among with the rest he has made already like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Baby Driver.  He is clever in creating scenes that isn't like the regular films you watch.

Thanks to his directorial style, this movie is right up my alley of tastes and is not among the hall of favorites in my hard drive.
