What would you do when a level 5 guy gets to date the hottest girl, a level 10 you ever saw? Imagine your surprise when even your family does not believe that you do. Your friends would even doubt you, and your ex would be jealous of you. This is what happened to Kirk (played by Jay Baruchel) who happened to get Molly's (played by Alice Eve) phone at the airport. When Kirk finally gives the phone back, his life goes on a tail spin, lucky guy.
Not cool Guy meets Cool Girl type of story, one will think it will just be simple. Simple yes but well thought of. Sometimes we only see the hardships encountered by the guy, but this film showed Molly's side as well. Their adventure into the unknown was shown almost side by side so if you are keeping tabs on their misgivings (if you may call it) you will find them to be equal in the end.
With you keeping tabs, you will consider these star crossed lovers are headed to the sad end of the world with them breaking up. Oh well, love wins in the end. Love fills up the void in the world making it a better place to live after all. If you love seeing the underdog wins on love, then this film is it.
What we liked in the film is the creative writing. Of how both of our leads have to struggle to keep their love alive. Starting off differently like Jay Baruchel's character lacking confidence on approaching Molly's beautiful appearance. Molly likewise liked Kirk as he was considered safe, her coming off from a previous relationship, she thinks Kirk was so sweet and naive and unattractive that yup he was safe. Eventually Kirk loved himself, making him love Molly even more and for the better reason, meanwhile Molly got it wrong and got hurt herself, learns to accept Kirk as a wonderful person and loved him for who he really is. Awwwww, that's love in the perfect world.
A very nicely written romantic comedy with the a great cast, loved the pairing of Jay Baruchel and Alive Eve with a great support in TJ Miller and Kryten Ritter characters, the film has risen above the mediocre other films in the same genre.
A truly great movie to be included in your friday movie marathon. Bring out that popcorn and get started to believe in love all over again.
