After a string of so so movies by Gerard Butler, finally there's one that comes along that truly showcases his acting talents on screen.
Here he plays a former secret service agent Mike Banning who protected the President Asher (played by Aaron Eckhart). And now he plans to get back his old post when a Korean terrorist Kang enters the picture and takes over the White House (Olympus).
The whole siege thing is a beauty to watch even with the carnage that you see. So beautifully executed by action film standards, its not that grandiose in style but believable is the key here. Butler is great as an agent here, fending off attackers, killing most of them but was overpowered in the end.
What transpires as an abduction of the Presidents turns out to be an all out attack on the United States on a nuclear level. Using its own arsenal against them, its now up to Mike Banning to stop the terrorist and stop the US from withdrawing from the demilitarized zone (DMZ) in Korea.
In comparison to another White House attack film, White House Down, this one has its own strengths very much different from the other. We can liken the whole film with the Under Siege series played in by Steven Seagal. Of how one man struggles past a number of terrorist just to save the day at the end of the movie.
Gerard Butler at his best here, and has a great connection with Aaron Eckhart here, truly a must watch action flick. Currently showing in Netflix right now.
