What would you do if you thought of doing a crime, and the police puts you in prison before doing it. It's premeditated crime that's punishable already in the near future. Your supposed victim is still alive but you go to jail.
This is the film's interpretation of the near future in fighting crime. No one is dead, no actual victim, no crime in this dystopian new world. Everyone is safe so they say, not.
Even with the state of the art technology they possess, of how the pre-cogs or psychics are all knowing, evil will still find a way to get in, and get in it did.
Tom Cruise is Chief John Anderton here, the leader of the anti crime unit that goes after would we killers. He's very good in what he does and has a very good arrest record. Great career he might have but he has emotional baggage as we have seen in the movie. His child was lost and he could not bear the loss. He resorts to drugs to get by and uses his career to make up for the remorse and guilt.
Everything was normal so to speak until he himself becomes the subject of the manhunt. The pre-cog machine identified him as the killer of an upcoming crime. He was dumbfounded and wondered who was the person he was going to kill? He didn't even know him and he wondered why would he kill him? Instead of turning himself in, he want to solve this case before he is arrested. He tried to conceal the case from his colleagues and superiors until it blows up on him. This is where the story gets better, and the action starts to a crescendo.
A lot of twists and turns later, from being a cop, now he becomes the hunted. A very good story line that has been a proven time and time again to be entertaining. See how John solves his own case while being pursued by his own men.
In the end, he solves the case, and even with the crimeless society, crime still does pay. This movie is currently being shown in Netflix just in case you want to watch it.
It's not often you see Tom Cruise in well made movie with a great story line.
