How Love Destroys Close Friends - Always Be My Maybe (2019)

This is the Netflix film and not the Filipino movie of the same title.  Just making it clear.

Now on to our regular programming.  A Netflix film starring great comedic stand outs Ali Wong and Randall Park.  We love these two separately and we loved them more together.  These two hit it off nicely in the movie as childhood best friends Sasha Tran and Marcus Kim.

Growing up houses beside each other, they grew up together.  Sasha's parents are always out, so she spends more time with Marcus' family.  She gets more from his family than off of hers.  No wonder they grew so close together that eventually they get romantically linked one evening.

That night in that old beat up Corolla would mark the end of them being best friends.  They crossed the line of friendship and brought them to the stage of awkwardness.  But instead of overcoming it, they grew apart.  This is how love destroyed their being best of friends.

Fast forward to the present, they lost touch of each after that incident and had lead them to their separate lives.  Both of them found new loves in their lives but somehow life throws a fast ball on you.  They were re acquainted when Sasha Tran, now a celebrated chef, gets to meet, the same old Marcus Kim, who hits on weed and helps in his dad's business.

Their lives separated financially and socially, somehow their childhood friendship that turned to sex, then to love, overcomes that awkward feeling they had years back.  Its your typical childhood romance story but with Keanu Reeves providing a twist.  The latter playing as himself here.

Even after overcoming their awkwardness, they are still denial of this love for each other but again life will really push itself on our leads.  Watching the film is enjoyable AF.  Both comedians pushing their craft to higher levels, this adds character to the movie, making it an awesome film.

Currently showing on Netflix.
